Training

Schooling

Yes, I take horses for schooling/education on a weekly rate. However; there are some T&C’s. Horses must already be established under saddle (not green broken) and ready for further education. Schooling can include work-in-hand as well as riding.

The intention behind the schooling is to improve the horse’s understanding of the aids, help him become more supple and balanced. To either teach him new dressage movements or refine the ones he already knows.

This kind of work is suitable for horses who are already established under saddle and used to being ridden/schooled in a dressage arena for 45mins+ at a time. It’s more specialised than the kind of training young/green horses need, so not suitable for green broken horses or those under 5 years old.

Postural Rehabilitation and Body Work

A combination of work-in-hand, schooling under saddle, postural muscle activation exercises and body work to help restore healthy movement and posture.

Assessing and addressing the horse as a whole to improve physical function, reduce the risk of strain-related injury and promote soundness.

All following the principles of biomechanics, exercise physiology and classical principles.

What kind of horses is this suitable for?

  • Horses that are unbalanced under saddle, either tense and rushing or unwilling to move forward
  • Horses returning to work after a break
  • Older horses with age-related stiffness
  • Horses with poor posture that have trouble carrying their rider in a balanced/healthy way

What kind of horses is this not suitable for?

  • Horses with suspected or diagnosed Kissing Spines
  • Horses still recovering/healing from injury
  • Horses unwilling to work due to physical discomfort (eg. laminitis)

For horses in the above categories, Veterinary clearance will be required before training can commence.

What’s on offer for the young/green horses?

Riding Lessons & Ground Support

Eyes on the ground while you ride to help with confidence, to give the young (or green) horses suitable activities for their experience level under saddle and establish solid foundations to bring them along the right way, building trust and confidence and correct basic training.

Here I am being ground support for freshly started Storm and his rider

Ground Lessons

If you would like to learn how to read and understand your horse on a deeper level, how to use your body language to influence him, how work with him tackless in the round yard, then ground lessons may be just what you’re looking for.

OR if your horse is:

  • Not very accepting of the saddle or is girth shy
  • Doesn’t stand well at the mounting block
  • Hasn’t been started under saddle, and you want to give him a head start
  • Not settled enough in a new place to get on and ride
  • Has “gaps” of missing training that are causing problems

We can work through all of these (and more) on the ground.

Gymnastic Lunging & Work In Hand

A horse can be fully trained in all of the dressage movements without having ever had a rider sit on his back! If you’d like to learn to work your horse In-Hand or some advanced lunging techniques just ask!
